IN THE CHURCHES.

The services in the city churches yeater- day were all well attended.

ST. PAUL'S CHURCH,

St. Paul’s Church was crowded yesterday both morning and evening with attentive acd earoest congregations. The Easter services were bright and attractive and heartily enjoved by all. A quantity of flowers, amongst which were noticable several beautiful Kaster lilies and palms, adorned the interior of the churcb, the chancel and font being very tastefully trimmed. The musical portion of the services deserve special mention. The anthem “ As it began todawn,” by Foster, though somewhat difficult, was sung by the whole chor with an ease and smoothness which is not often found outside of pro- fessionals,

Mrs. Hedley Palmer whose clear and pathetic voice is particularly adapted for church music, took the soprano solo and we have seldom heard her voice to better advantage. Mr. Ernest ill’s solo in the same was much appreciated. Kotschman’s “Te Deum” wasalso well sung, the boys voices in this as well as in the Responses to the Commandments showing an efficient and careful training,

The Rector, the Rev. Mr. Bryan, whose popularity is ever increasing, preached at each of the services a very impressive and masterly sermou, selecting his texts from portions of the scriptures appropriate to the great festival. Many members ot other denominations attended both

ST. PETER’S CATHEDRAL.

The services yesterday were as usual upon this high festival—Holy Communion at 7.45 and 8 o’clock, the Priest Incum- bent officiating; Matins at 10.15, plain. At 11 o’clock, Holy Communion, fully choral, was began with the processional * Come ye faithful, raise the strain,” to the rich tones of the fine organ. Garrett’s “ Kyrie,’ “Credo,” Sanctus” and “Gloria,” with “Benedictus” and “Agvue Dei,’} by Mr, Watson, the organist, were the selyctions tor this service, which was rendered in a bright and spirited manner. The Rev. T. H. Hunt was celebrant, and the sermon was preached by the Priest Incumbent. Evensong was sung at 7 o’clock, when Tallis’ service was rendered, together with Hayward’s “ Magnificat ” and “Nunc Dimitis” in a most pleasing manner. The Rev. Mr. Simpson preached again @ most powerful sermon on “ The Resurrection.” After the Offertory the choir formed in procession, singing once more that beauuful hymn, “Come ye faithful, raise the strain,” and returning to the chancel surrounded the altar and sang a thanksgiving “Te Deum” by Dale. This ended one of the most successful series Of musical services in this bright Cathedral Church. The attendance at the S:rvices yesterday was particularly large. She floral offerings and decorations were very nice and bright.

€T. DUNSTAN’S CATHEDRAL.

The’ three services in St. Dunstan’s Cathedral. yesterday were iarge y attended. At the early s:-rvices a large vamber ap- proached. the Holy Tabie. At 10.30 o clock Pontifical High Mass was sung by ‘His Lordship Bishop Macdonald. Rev. P. Curran was Arch Priest, with Rev. Dr. Curran and Rev. P. Gauthier as Deacons of, Honor and Rev. Angustine Macdonald and J. ¥. Johnson Deacons of Office. The sermon Of the day was preached by Rey. Dr. Morrison. It dealt with the passion and resurection of the Redeemer and the lessons to be learned therefrom. The choir usider the direction of Mr. Blanchard rendered Haydn’s lst Mass in an adimir- able manner. At seven o'clock Vesyjers were sung and Benediction givea by His Lordship Bishop Macdonald. Dr. Morrison was Arch Priest, aud Revs. P. Gauthier and William Daly Deacons of Honor. The singing at this service was also excellent. Mercadante’s “Ave Verum” and Rossi’s “ Tantum Ergo ” were given in addition to the usual music. The ceremonies at High Mass and at Vespers and Benediction were directed by Rev. Ignatius RK. A. Macdon. ald of the Cathedral staff. They were most impressive.

GRACE CHURCH,

The services in Grace Church were of unusual interest. The pastor preached at beth services on the Easter theme of the of the Resurection of Christ. The plat- form was beautifully adorned with some very choice plants, and the ch oir rendered some of the choicest pieces of appropriate music, greatly to the delight of the large congregation which asssembled at each service. Miss Dachemin and the choir de- serve great credit for the pains manifested in the preparations. At the close of the evening service there was a missionary rally unJer the auspices of the W. FIRST METHODIST CHURCH.

In the First Methodist Church Rey. Mr. Campbell preached at both services. The sermons were able and eloquent, and at the evening service a special plea was put in for the Prince Edward Hospital in the interests of which institution a collection wastaken. The choir, under the direc- tion of Mr. Earle, rendered choice music. The two voluntaries and the four anthems were admirably rendered.

ST. JAMES CHURCH.

At the morning service im St. James’ Church Mr. T.C. James preached and at the evening service Rev. Mr. Emory ad- dressed the congregation.
