The new edition carries a letter from a highland noblewoman who told DeBrett's editor Cyril Hank- inson that she would rather be left out of his book than be men- tioned on the same page with a mere Lowlander.

The woman said it was ‘a mat- ter of pride.’’ Hankinson, unable to fulfil her request, said “I am anxiously awaiting the comments of the Lowland branch when they find themselves in close proximity to the Highlanders.+’

The book’s preface reprints several other letters from listees and readers, plus the 63-year-old editor’s replies.
