TMIN G THE SPARK.

Whan- the engine doesn't seem to have the power it should, or runs sluggishly. examine the timing oi the spark. This is done by having cylin- der No. 1 on top center on the tiring stroke. Retard the spark fully. Ln this position the bmaker points on the timer should be at a point where they are Just about to break, or sep- arate. Bhould they not be in this position, then they should be reset.

Examine the condition or the points to see that they are not burnt or pit- ted. Ii they are in a wom condi. tlon, remove them and work them over an oil stone until they are thor- oughly cleaned. But remember that when the points are cleaned in this manner it is very necessary to reset them. This is done by tumlng the

Now place the jack and the, wood end to end inside the rim and at right angles to the lock. Work the jack very slowly until the rim spreads enough to bring the lock in- to its proper position.
