At the low wages received by woman

not afford a stateroom, but slept on deck on a pile of grain sacks, among horses and freight, with a few other women, who, like herself, could only pay for a ‘deck passage.”

At Oberlin she earned her way by teaching in the preparatory departm: n: of the college, and by doing housework in the Ladies’ Boarding Hall at three centsan hour. Most of the students were poor and tie college furnished them board at a dollar a week. But she conld not afford even this, and during most of her course she cooked her fuod in her own room, boarding herself at a cost of less than fifty cents a week. She had only one new dress during her col- lege course—a cheap print, and she did not go home once during the four years. —Boston Transcript.

Bertin, Nov. 6.— Advices received from St. Petersburg says twenty-two Catholic priests, a few days ago, were exiled from the Vistule district on the charge that they opposed the authorities. Yesterday, under guard, the priests started for their destina tion, aud a large number of persons attempt- ed to rescue them from the gendarmes. A desperate fight followed. The gendarmes were reinforced by Cossacks, who fired into the crowd, killing and wounding many persons. Further trouble is feared.

Will leave Orwell Brush Wharf for Charlotte- town every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 7 o'clock, calling at Halliday’s Wharf.

Will leave Charlottetown for Halliday’s and Orwell Brush Wharves same evenings at 30 clock, remaining at Brash Wharf every Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and on Thursdays will return to Charlottetown, arriving there about 8 o’elock.

Will go up to Vernon River Bridge every allernate Wednesday.
