There are a few changes in this week’s paper! The SUN finally has some news articles. I've been waiting for a letter to the editor complaining about the shortage of news in the past issues. This week's paper is four pages

larger and we also have a number of different

students writing articles this week. We have letters to the editor again this week; too bad they're on the same topic as the

ones in the past tw0 issues of the SUN.

The same

questions are asked as in weeks past, and I dbn’t intend to use this editorial space to once again

explain my reasons.

The other day I was talking to a couple of students who graduated from here last spring. They commented on the number of changes at UPEI in the past year, especially the rising costs of

Student Union sponsored events.

Last year one

could go to pubs, coffee houses and parties for free and other activities such as Pigs and Movies

cost much less.

Last year there were Monday, Tuesday and

Wednesday night pubs for free.

This year the

Monday night pub is free but Tuesday has a 50¢ addhdssion and there is no Wednesday pub as it has been replaced by The Exchange with a door

chargé Of 75¢ .

Last year there was no admission for the Exchange Coffee House!

The price of'Pig ’N Whistles has increased to $2.00 or $1.75 from $1.50 (depending on the ’ group playing), pubs and parties on Frideys and Saturdays have an admission of‘50 or 75¢ and Sunday movies have increased to $2.00.

Now, I realize that the Student Union is trying to create a different atmosphere at the Barn and that due to inflation the cost of staff and entertainment has increased but why do students have to pay a cover charge to get into the events on campus almost every night of the week? Perhaps the attendance at The Exchange and pubs would be greater if‘there wasn’t a

charge!

The cry on campus the last couple of

years was for more DRY events for Freshmen or

minor students.

There seem to be more Dry,,

events this year — Exchange, square dances, movies, plays, etc., but the problem this year seems to be the lack of FREE events. It’s

bad enough the price of'our favorite beverage has increased at the Barn {with a smaller choice oj'available brands) but must we pay every time

we enter the Barn?

I hope that some members of the executive or Student Council will be able to take time from their studies and money-making schemes to wiite us a short note or two for next week’s

paper.

Perhaps they will also be able to

explain to us 'where all the money went" this

year!

It seems the budgets for all committees

have been drastically slashed this year and

a freeze been put on all travel expenses. (This writer was refused funding to go to the ARCUP (Atlantic Region of'Canada University Press)

conference last weekend.

UPEI hosted this

conference last year and now this year we

aren't allowed the monies to attend.

UPEI was

the only university not represented at this

conference!!!)

Let’s hope that next semester there will- be no more increases in cover charges or there will be a lot of us declaring bankruptcyl!
