Mr'. MacDonald, an wtstandlng exhibitor for many years, is an RPO (Record of P‘ertfomnance) poultry breeder and hatcher. He has recently been specializing in raising and hatching geese on a commercial basis.

At present, Mr. MacDonald is raising several breed of geese, the most popular being the.Pil- grim Goose.He has been exper- imening with the larger type of

, bird and crosses and large geese. The MacDonald farm' have been breeding and hatching since 1945 and are now cooperating in a group Random Sample Tests with mother ROP breed-er, Ivan Daw- son of Central Bedeque. ~ / TEST STATION Ralph Rayner, Proprietor of Rayner’s Chicken Hatchery of Charlottetown has been actively engaged in breeding of Single Gone White Leghorns. Operating an RO‘P breeder, Mr. Rayner spelalizes in light type laying strain and crosses. At present, the Rayner farm, in conjunction with the Federal Government, is constructing a large test station to test the mer- its as dlfiferent strains and cross- es. I The former poultry plant on the farm was destroyed by fire three years ago. After‘ completing the abuilding' job, Mr. Rayner has undertaken a new project which will add greatly to pesent facil- ities.

The record number of entries that have poured into the Poultry section of the Exhibition :1 Old Home Week celebrations ,has forced officials to move their stations into the outdoors.

An open air addition has been erected on the No. 5 building just behind the present Poultry building where geese and ducks, will be housed. ’

'The' new addition, 43 feet in length or approximately half the length of the building stands over seven feet in height and is 14 feet wide. There are 76 individual cages standing in rows of 19 each double—decked on eigher side of, tho Shed. ’

Charlie Scranton, poultry field man‘for the Depamtment of Agric- ulture and judge of the Old Home Week shows for the past 14 years said that all is in readiness for the record _ smashing entry list that is expected.

Mr. Scranton has been connect- ed with shows of this type since 1941. Born on a farm in eastern Nova Scotia, he has come to play an important part in poultry breding on the Island.
