Canadian Choir Sings In Abbey

LONDON (Reuters) - David Evans, ii. hoisted the Canadian ensign on a tower of Westminster Abbey Tuesday to inaugurate the iirst tenure oi a Canadian chair in the 900-year-old shun-J1.

At 3 p.m. (noon ED'I'). the 40 men and boys or the st. George's Cathedral choir oi Kingston, Ont., sang the evenson,,, to become the first Commonwealth choir to take over as vacation reliei for the Abbey's regular singers. '

The Canadians will sing daily for three weeks, and three or tour times on Sundays.

Newsreel cameras whirred and flashbulbs popped as David hoisted the ensign on the Abbey: north- west tower, where it will remain during the three-weeks. David, a member of the choir, is a son of the bishop of Ontario. Rt. Rev. K. G. Evans.

Previously the men's and boys' sections oi the Abbey choir took holidays alternately.

The boys are staying at the Ab- bey choir school. Their supervisor, John K. Edmlston, 22. a University of Toronto arts student of Palmer- ston, Ont., said: "they really on- joyed the boat trip in the Ascnnia. We gave three concerts and sang at one service on the boat.".
