Charlottetown Hospital. —_—_—<——

Tur subject of which Mr. Cyrus Shaw writes is well worthy of attention. We do not agree with Mr. Shaw that it would be weli forthe Government to assist in the maintenance of the Hospital ; for this Pro. vivee should not be deprived of the credit of supporting its one institution of the kind by the free and un- assisted Christian charity of its people. But, we think, the Government might properly be asked to give a handsome grant, to aid in the erection of anew, a larger and a better hospital building. — We feel assured that the Government would be giad to respond to such a request; and we hepe they may yet have an opportunity of doing so.

In view of those facts, and when we con sider that this institution is sapported prin- cipally by contributions, and that the service performed is so great—and effecting all ses- tions of the colony—I am of opinion that it behooves the Government to take the matter into their earnest and most serious considera- tion, and appropriate an annual grant to the support of this truly noble and praiseworthy Institution ; and feel assur-d that in doing sa they would meet with the approbation aud approval of the great mass of the people of this colony.

Str,—It is to be boped that the Directors | of this old institution will gravely co sider the terrible cousequences of liq idation, and not permit its occurrence. No effort shouid he spared by them, nor any work seem teo formidable, 1f by their active exertion they succeed in restoring the Bank. The welfare of the community is seriously at stake,ind the people of P E. Island are at present anxiously awaiting the verdict of the Directors) Wil they deceive us? I cannot entertain the thought. .
