ACCIDENTALLY Suot.—The St. John Sun revorts that a man named Burchill, while out duck shooting at Frenchman’s Creek last Tuesday morning, was a cidentally shot by the discharge of a gun in a boat. Bristol, the other occupant of the boat, struck the gun with an oa nd the contents went through the side of the boat and entered Burchill’s leg. The shot has been extracted trom the leg, and the wounded man is doing well.

Temerrance Rum.—Says the Chatham World: One of the most prominent of St. John’s prohibition advocates, a wealthy mer chant, recently received a consignment of fifty hogsheads of Demerara rum, forty over- proof, cheap and fiery, by one of his own He did not send it back, or pour it into the harbor, but handed it over to the liquor dealers for whom it was intended, pocketing his freight and commission like a publican and sinner. This is probably temperance rum.

Some Heavy Wricutrs.—Messrs. J. A. Lea- man & Co., of Halifax, have recently been purchasing a fine lot of cattle in Toronto for the Halifax Easter market. The lot passed through Moncton a few evenings ago, and attracted much attention. Following are the weights as given in the Times :—1! ox, 5 years old, live weight 3279; 1 steer (General Gor- don), 2 years old, live weight 1825; l steer, 2 years old, live weight 1675; 9 steers, 2 year olds, each to dress about 800 lbs. ; 2 heifers, 2 year olds. each to dress about 700.

The inebriate is locked up and given only food boiled in his favorite wretched spirit and water.
