For those of you out there who aren’t that in- volved in the production of ‘The Gem’, there was an Atlantic Region Cana- dian University Press {.47'- CUP) conference in Halifax this past week-end. CUP is a non-profit organization linking over fifty students papers across Canada. As a member of CUP, our fees pay for a news & features exchange, and a source of ‘national advertising.

This ference was jointly hosted by 5t- Mary’s ‘Jour- nal’, and _ the ‘Gazette’. Gem stiit mem- bers to attend the AR- CUP conference were my- self, Danny Mullen, and Su- san Arbing. Cther univer- sity papers to attend were ‘the Picaro’ of Mount Saint

At the opening semi- nar on Saturday morning, we discussed what CUP re- ally is, and what we get from our membership in it when we pay our fees to the national office in Ottawa.
