The malignant fever at was so soon to separate him from all earthly ties, had not. in God’s goodness, the wer to weaken, during those trying days and us, the strength of his vigorous mind. \Ved- nesday night came, and at his bedside during fliosu‘ few, too few, anxious hours, his much-loved friend and parish priest. the Very Rev. The Very Rev. Dr. Birmingham. P. P.. Castle- blaney, Jireached the sermon on the melancholy occasion, and I never heard a more feeling or a more eloquent tribute or one more richly deserv- ed. Iio traced the collegiate and missionar life of the lamented deceased III vivid colors, am in the most touching language; he went direct to the heart of every one in that vast and sorrowng congregation, and indeed, for myself, I felt the. words of the poet, as I saw the coffin of poor Father M’Cnlloch being lowered into the grave——

“ It were sweet into the grave to go. If one were sure to be buried so.” The jubilant tones of the Ilenedicfus dis [led the gloom of the lonely grave, made us orgct the sting of death. and raised as above the victory of the grave; and. as the Requiem-at was intoned over his lowered cofiiu. every heart was filled with mingled feelings—sorrow, because the young priest was gone forever; joy. because he died the death of the just, and had the funeral of an Irish triest, gentleman, and patriot.
