Social Evening At Long River Home

-The home of Mr. and Mrs. Allan A. Campbell, Long River, was pleasantly crowded on Wed- nesday, March lath. when the members of the Presbyterian Church and their friends enjoyed an evening of good fellowship and were entertained with a selection of music, readings and contests of both varieties. brain stimulating and mirth provoking.

Mr. Arthur Stewart, well known auctioneer. as master of ceremon- ies, kept the tempo lively. and in the sale of the generous donation of aprons, fudge. pillow cases. cushionr covers and other articles, gave I. fins display of his abilities as an auctioneer.

A well filled grab bag was quick- ly emptied. adding to the proceeds which amounted to a tidy sum at the close of the evening, gratify- ing in itself. and as a guest re- marked. "Think what I good time we had making it"i

Included in the program were a cent contest by Mrs. Harold Mac- Lcod. a reading by Mrs. W.J. Pro- fltt, clothespin contest by Mrs. Archie Paynter, captained by Mr. Leigh Paynler and Mr. William Found. a solo. self accompanied on the piano by Erwin Brown, a "Man" contest by Mrs. W. L Campbell. a piano solo by Miss Laura Bell, comflakos contest won by Mrs. Andrew Johnstone and Mr. Alton Bell, and a contest, "Places in the Maritimes" by Mrs. George MacLeod.

A bountiful and delicious lunch brought the happy evening to a fitting close. ,

-The regular monthly meeting of the Happy sunbeam Mission Band was held at the home of Margaret and Raymond Cairns with 20 members present..

The theme for the meetingvwas "A Christian can Do -1-llrd Things". Call to worship was fol- lowed by Psalm 2'2. verses If-N read by Gail Qulgley. The. mem- bers sang the Mission Bend Hymn and repeated the Mission Band Purpose. scripture Lesson, Luke 10. verses 30-34. was read by Eliza- beth Maocaull. and Marianne Johnston led in prayer. This was followed by hymn. "God W110 Made The Earth", after which a chapter from the Study Book wls read and explained.

The offering was taken by Mar- garet Cairns and dedicated. The hymn "When He. oometh” brought this part of the meeting to a close.

Arlene sturdy. Margaret Cairns and Dale Morrison hid birthdays this month and the members can: "Happy Birthday" to them.

Little Verna Smallman. baby daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis smallman, had a narrow escape re- cently. While she was eating, a dog attacked her nose and forehead. She was rushed to a doctor and it required ten sttches to close the wound. At lat- est report she is doing as well as can be expected.

Mr. Albert Wallace returned to Saint John on Thursday. March 5th after spending a few days with rel- ativea in this community.

The sympathy of this communitv is being extended to the familv of the late Francis J. Shea in their recent sad bereavement.

Mr. and Mrs. James Lawless of Norboro, Mr, and Mrs. James Pen- dergast of Kensington. and Mrs. Inuis O'Connor of Clntoii attended the funeral of the la'te Francis J. Shea on Monday, March 9th.

The members of the Summerfleld W.M.S. met at the home of Mrs. Crawford Sinclair Thursday even- ing, March 12th with the president presiding.

The theme was "Community Of Grace". The meeting opened by Scripture reading. Matthew 28, 18- 20, followed by singing Hymn 1'11 Scripture, Ephesians 4. 1-16. was read by Mrs. Keith Mayne.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Roll call was responded to by if members, with one visitor present. Collection dmounted to 84.55. The members reported 19 sick calls during the past month.

Correspondence was read, includ- ing a letter from Mrs. Allison Tait. literature secretary, encouraging members to read more. It was moved and seconded by Mrs. Lind- say that more books be sent for.

The next meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. Harland Day, with Mrs. Lindsay Sharpe in charge of program. The word for roll call is "Flee-h”.

Mrs. Clark Harding, assisted by some members. outlined the pro- gram entitled "Unmet needs in Af- rica". followed by prayer.

The meeting closed by singing Hymn 519, followed by Benediction. Lunch was served by the hostess.

-The March meeting of the Auxiliary of Bedeque United Church was held at the home of Mrs. Pearle Anleck. The theme was "The Community of Grace”. The president, Mrs. Walter Wright, conducted the meeting.

Another Fine School Parade Presentation

The M. F. schurmari Co., Ltd. presented its regular scholastic talent -show and spelling contest of the current series on Friday evening. March 20th over C.J.R.W. and again the radio audience was treated to an hour of entertain- ment of a highly interesting nat- ure.

The March irieeting of Cornwall W. M. S. was held at the home of Mrs. Hazeri Howard with 18 mem- bers in attendance.

Theme for the worship led by Mrs. Walter Boyle was, "the "Means of Grace through the Fel- lowship of the Church". This was followed by a review of the final chapters of the study book on An- gola by Mrs. Stanley Wlllia, which S-hOiV0(l the impression the Europ- eans have made in Africa by sup- pression of the slave trade, by building new roads, modern soil treatment, crop rotation. overcom- ing racial discrimination and maintaining social justice. Mem- bers learned too of new missionary work begun in the copper belt of Nortlicrii Rhodesia.

Prayers were said for World Fellowship of Christian missions by Mrs. Watson Livingston and renewed dedication to missions in Africa by Mrs. Hazen 1-loward. A hymn and Benediction closed this part of the meeting.

The March meeting of the Llii-, coin Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Angus Gal- lant. In the absence of the presi- dent. Mrs. Leo Gallant. the vice- president Mrs. Angus Gallant pre- sided.

The meeting opened with prayer. Seven members answered roll call with an article for an auction. The ,minutes of the last meeting were read, approved, and signed by the vice-president.

The sick committee reported one sick call with treat. The school committee reported that the First Aid kit in school needed to be re- filled.

Correspondence was read and discussed. New committees were appointed: sick, Mrs. Ernest War- ren: school, Mrs. Charles Gallant; program. Mrs. Angus Gallant.

The next meeting is to be held at the home of Mrs. Ernest War- ren. Roll call is to be answered by an exchange of Easter gifts.

The program put on by Mrs. Wilfred McAlecr was won by Mrs. Angus Gallant. One member paid her fee of 25 cents. Articles were auctioned, making 31.72. It. was moved by Miss Evelyn Gallant and seconded by Mrs. Ernest Warren that the meeting bc adjourned.

Friends and relatives of Dr. Shea, Alberton, are sorry to learn of his recent illness, and wish him speedy recovery.

A large crowd from surrounding districts attended the three act Vives” which was. held in the parish hall, Alherton.! The players were greeted with a! capacity house which applauded the cast for their splendid per- -formance. The specialties between the acts were in true spirit of st. Patrick's Day.
