GoLpD oN THE LAKE oF THE Woeps.—A letter from Rat Portage, Canada Pacitic Rail- way, Nov. 8, to a gentleman in this city, says. ‘There is great excitement here over the find of gold on the Lake of the Woods. Prospect- ing parties are out in large numbers.”

A ormart disaster oceurred on Lake Ontario on the 18th inst. A fleet of six tugs, three dredges, two derricks and seven scows were lost during a heavy gale and snowstorm. Nineteen persons were rescued and eighteen are supposed to be drowned.

Tux Halifax ‘Chronicle’ says:—‘‘A ‘tall man with a tall hat,’ was an object of interest in this city a few months ago, and a similarly described individual is distinguishing himseli by chasing females on the street in Charlotte. town, P. K |.” The ‘‘tall man” has not molested any one since Tae Examiner called attention to his dark deeds.

Mr. Epwarp MANNING, who is well known as aformer very successful teacher in St. John, will open a private school for boys and an afternoon class for young ladies there, on Monday next. Tue Halifax ‘‘Reporter and Times” re- pers that a sensation .has been caused ina ‘‘beautiful rural district” of Nova- Scotia over an alleged forgery case. A respectable woman (married), is charged with having forged a note with the knowledge and consent of her husband, and of trying to collect the same.

are given. Av Quelec, on the morning of Nov. 17, a boy, the son of J. B. Emond, baker, while laying on St. Andrew's street, saw the North Shore train approaching at its usual slow speed which is maintained while passing through the ety. The boy tried to jump on the cars with the view of taking a ride, a ractice indulged in by many, When missing his footing he tel) under the wheels, and was instantly killed, his head and foet being severed from jis bo-ly. McKeown, the daughter of the pastor of the church, to Rev. George M. Campbell, of Charlottetown, P. E. lL. The ceremony was performed by the father of the bride, assisted vy Rey, Mr. \Weddall, of Carleton. The bride was atte wed by Misses Bessie and Maud Me- Keowr,, whiie Rev. D. D. Moore acted as groomsmin. Prof. Max Sterne presided at tie o gan. At the conclusion of the ceremony te bride was presented by the trustees of the e.urch with a very handsome Bible and hymn book. she being the first elerzyman’s daughter warried in tle church.
