Apprenticeship.
Siz,—l notice a reference to apprentice- ship in Saturday's issue. Your complaint is that very few willtake time to learn a trade or profession thoroughly. This is but one phase of the subject. How often are those few who apprentice themselves and go ‘through the mill,” neglected by
prentices, but have them mainly for the furtherance of their own interests. This prevails to such an extent, that it is, not surprising at all that young men try other means of learning trades and professions, than the no pay and no teaching mode of apprenticeship. APPRENTIVE.
The late Dr. Rice will be succeeded in the general superintendence of the Metho- dist Church of Canada by the present assistant superintendent, Albert Carman, D. D. Before the uvion was accomplished Dr. Carman was bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and has the reputation of being an eloquent speaker and able ad- ministrative officer. He comes from united empire loyalist stock.

The antimony mine at West Gore Hants Co., N. 8., has been doing much to develop the resources of what seems to be a won- derful-deposit. Two shafts are down over 160 feet each, besides opening drifts to the extent of several hundred feet. They have shipped largely, chiefly to London, where they realize £52 to the ton.
