We koow very well that the siving of two or three hours a day from slumber is, in one sense equivalent toa ¢oasiderable prolongation of humzun life, and we are no xdvocates of indolence; but the fact still remains that sleep may be so much abridged us to leave the system in- capable of as much effective work in two hours as might be perfurmed in a better condition io one.

HOW TO BE HANDSOME.

If we are afflicted by nature with crook- ed noses and irregular features, it is be- cause of irregularities in our ancestors’ features or habits, and we cannot rid our- selves of them, but we can so live that our children and grand-children can be hand. some, Rules of heulth must be observed. But more tWin ‘all, in order to look well, woke up th” mind and soul. When the mind is xwake, the dal, sleepy look passes away from the eyes. Keep thivkivg pleasant, noble, thoughts, and read, uot trashy novels, but books that have something io them. ‘Tuik with people who know some- thing; hear lectures and learn by them. A‘oin thinks aod works, and tells of the rasult. But if we listen, and heed, and understand, the miad aod soul are waked up. If the spiritual nature is aroused, «o mmuch the better. We have seen a plain foce really glorified with the love of God avd men which shone through it. Let us grow handsome.
