Aveusra, Me., Jan 22.—By far the mo t important event of the day in the legisia- ture, and indeed in many days, was the bill introduced in the house to-day by Mr. Williams of Augusta, providing for the sale, under state patronage, of “pure un- adulterated intoxicating liquors for medi- cinal, mechanical or manufacturing pur- poses only.” Agents are to keep a record of each sale, price, name of purchaser. and: the kind of liquor sold. Fifty dollars is to be the maximum fine for neglect to make such record.
