Cattle Exports.

Live stock to the value of $2,681,000 was shipped from Canada, by the St. Lawrence, te Great Britain in 1879, againat 2,117,525 in 1878. This enormous increase of ex- portation of Canadian cattle, as compared with the previous year, shows that farmers are more alive to the importance of stock- raising and of improving the quality such as required for the English markets. The success which has thus far attended the exportation ef Canadian cattle gives great encouragement for farmers to pay still more attention to stock-raising and im- prevement of breed.

Diprueria—-the dread disease-—entered the family of Mr. William Dingwell, of this city, and has carried off three children. One of Mr. Dingwell’s children, ten years of age. died of the disease about a fortnight ago. Others of the family contracted it, and twe of them— ene a girl of fifteen years and the other a boy of eight—succumbed to its terrible effects, yesterday. We tender Mr. Dingwell and family our sympathy in their sad _ bereave- ment.
