Deatu or 4N Istanpen,—The faneral of Jas Flynn, of Dane St. Somerville, (formerly of Tracadie), took place from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, on Aug, 22nd. Rev. C. C. MeGrath officiated. The American Tube Works, where the deceased had been employ- ed, closed down, and the employes attended the faneral in a body. The florai display was ex- tensive including a large design from the asso- ciation connected with the Works. The burial took place at St. Paul's Cemetery, West Som- erville.

Though the weather Was threatening, quite a number of people Went over on the steamer, and enjoyed them- selves strolling about on the picnic grounds. Aunt allie was present, and caused much Stusement, while football and other games were Provided for the young people. Owing to the GNexpectedly large number of visitors who Were present the large supply of provisions was hardly equal to tne demand; but in other respects the aifair was very successful.

In the Hon. the Minister of Militia’s Match, shot yesterday, Sapper R. V. Long- worth captured a prize of $5, and in the Standing match Sapper Anderson won $5 and Private J. A. McLaren $4.
Captain Weeks, Lieutenant Stewart, Staff- Sergeant Allen, Sergeant Davison and Sap- per Anderson are still holding their own in the aggregate.
The Milicia match was for a challenge cup, presented by the Hon. the Minister of Militia, with 8618 added by the Associa- tion. The teams were selected from the competitors entered as individuals and com- posed of persons who have been vouched for as being members of the afliliated As- sociation before the ist of July last.
The first team prize consisted of the cup and $45 ; the second of $36; third, $30 ; fourth, $24; fifth, $18 ; sixth $13--a total of $168, The first individual prize was $30 ; second, $25 ; third, $20; fourth, $15 ; eight prizes of $10 each ; ten of $8; forty of $5 --a total of $450.
In the Standing Match the first prize was $20; the second $15; third, $12; fourth $19; ten prizes of $6 each ; twenty of $5; twenty of $4, making in all fifty-four prizes valued at $297. The range was two hundred yards,

Next came the standing match; range 200 yards, seven rounds, Capt. Weston took second place and won $15; score 31. Lieut. Manning fourth place, and won $10, score 31. Major Church and Sergt. Miner won each $15, score 29. Capt. McRobbie, Sergt. Mumford and Pte. Reynolds each won $5, score 28. In this match seventy- nine twenty-sevels were counted out. To-morrow will see the shooting in the Dominion of Canada match and the com- pletion of the grand aggregate series, when it can be telegraphed those eligible to shoot for the Governor-General’s prizes.
Quebec News.
MontTREAL, Sept. 5. Quite a bombshell was thrown into legal circles to-day by a report from Ottawa that the Dominion Cabinet had vetoed Provin- cial Premier Mercier’s bill establishing a District Magistrate’s Court in Montreal. A young son of Mr. Dupuy, seed mer- chant of this city, while shooting on the Upper Gatinau, was accidentally shot in the back by a comrade and is not expected to live. Three hundred commercial travellers and their friends left to-day on an excursion to Saratoga, New York, Boston and home by the Central Vermont.

Union of the Maritime Provinces is holding its tenth annual session. There are 36 unions in the provinces and much progres- sive work has been accomplished. Several | unions were organized last year. Fraternal creetings were received from Good Temp- ‘jars and Sons of Temperance. The Third Party will hold conference with the women to-morrow. The Convention received a formal welcome from Halifax and Dart- raouth Unions to-night.
