The other wreck, the Brig Gordon, be longed to St. Juhn, N. B., laden with deals, and was bound to England. ‘The vessel was lost on the south side of the Island, on the /22nd of last month. The crew, we are glad ito learn, were all saved.

The city of Manilla, which is reported to have been visited by a terrible earthquake, is one of the great commercial emporiume of ‘the East, the capital of the island of Luzon and ot all the Puilippine Islauds. The mag- nitude of the disaster may be inferred when it ie stated that the city and suburbs contain streets several miles in extent. Among the finest of its public buildings was the Roman Catholic Cathedral, the palaces ot the Arch- und the Governor; a beautiful city ‘hall; ten or twelve churches, belonging to | different religious orders; several convents land monasteries, an sreenal, five colleges, i St. Thomas’ University, 3 custom house, ® /commodious theatre, ete. The city proper formed the segment of # circle between the river Pasig and the sea, ite suburbs extending over numervus islets, easily reached in all parts by boars. The city is subject to these terrible visitations. About eleven years age it sustained immense damage from an

The salmon fishery at Miramichi has been quite & success this season—most of the fish taken have been put up for exportation ; the inhabitants were but indifferently supplied.

Three large vessele were recently launched at Richibucto, viz: the ship ** Arzilla,”’ of 1070 tons; the ** Dauntless,’’ of LU0U tons; and the ** Weldtord,’’ of 612 tons. These vessels are a valuable acquisition to the ship- ping of that port.

bem Bragg’s army have lately arrived at Atalunota, by a twenty-four hours’ railroad ride. Some new Confederate batteries on James Island, including several sea coass mortars, are throwing shells over Federal trenches, but do not interrupt the workmen. Fort Wagner also pours destructive missiles over the trenches, cunsisting often of broken bottles and glassware, crockery, nails, und fragments of couking utensils. The Con- federates closed up the embrasures on the suuthern tace of Fort Wagner for three days and remained silent until the 30th ult., at daylight, wnen they cleared the embrasures and developed the fact that they had five gune in position, two ot them being new ones, from which they opened a bot fire upon the Federal working parties, dving them con- siderable damage.
