Whereas, Sach continuous steam communi- tion is of the most vital importance to this Island, and its establishment and maintenance was one of the chief inducements to the Island to enter the Confederation ; and

Whereas, The steam service, as already provided by the Dominion Government, has proved to be neither efficient nor continuous, and no rees-nable efforts have becn made to improve upon or perfect the said service,

Therefore Resolved, That this meeting ex- press its dissat‘sfaction and regret at the man- ner in which, for the last twelve years, the Dominion Government has violated its most solemn cogagements, and insists upon the strict and immediate fulfilment of the terms ef union on the part of the Deminion Gov- ernment,

Whereas, The Dominion Government hav- ing seiected the Capes as the most suitable place for crossing the Straits of Northumber- land in winter, when steam communication between Georgetown and Pictou hed been dis- continued for the season, it became the duty of the Government to inform itself of the necessities of that route and take the control of the same, and rerder the same safe and commodious for mails and passengers; and

Whereas, The Dominion Governmeut has neglected its duty in that behalf and has made no proper provision for the safety of mails or passengers,

Therefore Resolved, That this meeting urge upon the Government the necessity, by com- mission of inquiry or otherwise, to investigate the necessities of this route and take immedi- ate control thereof, and render the sauce as safe and etticient as practicable.
