So the tiny insect of Smyrna was brought to the New World and liberated among the sterile fig trees of California. Result: in a few months there were millions of them. They crawled into the end of the flgs in the fruit-beprlng trees, carrying the pollen of the Capri fig with them. Then they came out and died. The miracle had taken place. Those figs instead of drylns up and falling off as had been the case in past years, stuck last to their branches and grew into lush. ripe fruit; and all because of our clever scientists finding out about the tiny insect of Asia Minor.
