Civic Election Race Tightens in Summerside

The civic election race in Sum- merside is tightening up with an announcement last evening by Mr. Leo Wood that he intends to con- test. the West Ward. Mr. Wood is a native of Summerside and is associated with Mr. Ensor Bown- ess in the undertaking business. Like his opponent. Mr. Clarence Steele. he is making his first bid for civic honors.

As it now stands ‘it looks as if the only ward where an acciama- tion may be given ls the Centre Ward when Councillor T.D. Mor- rison is the only announced can- dldate.

In the East Ward Councillor .1. Lloyd Gorrill l5 being opposed by Mr. Willard Muttart. There are two candidates definitely entered in the mayoralty race, Coilncliior Henry Wedge and Mr. Donald Ba- ker. '

MS. therefore. be lt resolved that this Preshyterlal request each Auxiliary to conduct an every-woman can- vassyvlthin the hounds of its own congregation in an effort to in- crease its active and associate membership.

Resolved; That we reaffirm our opposition to the use and sale of alcoholic liquors for beverage pur- poses. \Ve urge upon all our mem- bots that they recognize their Christian duty to totally abstain from its use themselves. and to re- fraln from serving, or causing to he served. such alcoholic liquors at all times and in all places.

Further, we call upon all our members to adopt as their own the Declaration of Purpose Card as authorized by the General Council o! the United Church of Canada, and to encourage the use of tiie Purpose Cards in Temper- ance work in all Departments of their local church.
