The funeral which was very largely attended was held from the home of her son John in Wcstnior- land on November l4th to St. Jos- oph's church for Requiem High Mass at 930: and was under the direction of Mr. Robert Bradley of the Charlottetown Funeral Home.

The community of Rennie's Road was saddened to hear of the death of one of its weli,known and best loved citizens. Mr. John Ross. who passed away very peacefully in his seventy-eighth year at the home of his nephew. Fred Smith. , . Mr. Ross, ,the son of the late Donald Ross and Eliza MacDonald. was born at R.ennie's Road and lived at the old home all his life. He leaves to mourn one sister. Mrs. -Mary Chandler of Charlottetown. Three sisters, Sarah, Catherine and Margaret. and two brothers, Alex- ander nnd Duncan pre-deceased him.

Mr. Ross enjoyed good health all his life, partly due to his quiet -manner and serene spirit. He was happy and contented on the farm and was known as 9. great lover of horses. He never married but lived with his mother fill her death. He was as a father to two of his nephews. Wm. Ross and Fred Smith. who lived at his home. In his later years he was cared for by Fred and his wife Bertha whose faiher'Edwa.rd Waye also lived with them. The two elderly men enjoyed each oihv.-rr's company for several years and both were called home the same year. Mr. Waye on May 17th. and Mr. Ross on Novem- ber 4th. f

The funeral, held in the United Church at Hunter River. was con- ducted by his minister, Rev. How- ard Christie, assisted by Rev. Wil- fred MacLeod. a lifelong friend. Let us notice first that the Bible magnifies total abstinence. " The children of Israel drank no wine nor strong drink for forty years during the wildernes wander- ngs.

God commended the Rechabites through Jeremiah for the one parti- cular reason that they had kept the tradition of their father. Jonadab. and drank no wine nor strong drink (Jer. 35:1-14). .

God commanded the priests to drink no wine nor strong drink (Lev. 10:8. 9.).

God commanded the Nazarites to drink no wine nor strong drink (Num. 6:1-3).

God commanded the mother of Samson to drink no wine nor strong drink (Judges 13: 4-1-1). Samson. the strong man of the Bible. being a Nazarite, was a total abstainer. .

Samuel. the great judge of 13. fuel. was a total abstainer.

God decided that his mission in this world was accomplished and called him to his everlasting home. He will be greatly missed not only by lils wife and family but by a host of friends, for his friendly smile was always a ray of hope for all who knew him.

The services at the church and grave were conducted by Rev. J. ft. McMahon. The following hymns were sung "Abide with Me.” safely and Tenderly" and "The Lords my Shepherd."
