STUDENTS & CLUBS
If you don't like fencing or going to French or Spanish club meetings and even if you do happen to like speaking Spanish or French there are a number of clubs be- sides these you can go to. There are clubs to please everybody no matter what your preferences. In the lines following I will give a rundown for those who have not
already researched the.
clubs for themselves.
Charlottetown has three clubs for young people (18 -) if you want to dance. Each of these three clubs has a somewhat dif— Lferent crowd.
The Granada on Kent Street is the only club in the clty which has regular live enter— tainment. Thus, it has a cover charge which eliminates it right there for some students The Granada crowd is composed of a lot of young workers, and a core of regulars. The average age in the Granada tends to run between 24 - 26 with a number under and a number over (usually more over than under). The groups which play at the Granada tend to be very light musical- ly often leaning to- ward country music. Very seldom is there what you could even think of calling a rock group playing there.
Gentlemen Jim's on University Avenue is one of the two local discotheques. GJ's is the favorite of the two as far as students are concerned. The music at GJ's is usually better than at the Jolly Knight de- pending on who is in the booth.
The Jolly Knight on Kent Street is yet
another story. The Jolly Knight seems to be a bit on the heavy side as far as the crowds are concerned. There are a lot of street people, wander— ers, and regulars. crowd tends to be y younger than the other two clubs. The Jolly Knight tends to be a

lot wilder and greasier than the other clubs in town. So, if that's your style, help your- 361:5. L
The Prince Edward Room has live enter- tainment but it attracts few students to the best of_my knowledge.
The clubs have prices at basically the same level. Ex- orbitant. .There is however a student
~night when prices are
merely outrageous. GJ's have a student night on Monday. The Jolly Knight has a student night on Wednesday — bring your boxing gloves. Outside of clubs with records or live entertainment there are a number of lounges. These are usually nice quiet places to relax and talk over a drink if

The Tudor Room at the Charlottetown Hotel is quite nice, big, comfortable and roomy with highly decorated ceilings - very tasteful. My personal favorite does not draw young people although the number of young peo- ple under 25 who frequent the estab— lishment has in- creased in the last year or two. I highly recommend it, and don't ask "Who is he to recommend?"
The Gallows in the Inn on the Hill is quite nice, very com- fortable but not very big and too well lit.
(We don't have a romantic atmosphere type club in the whdle bloody city though one night at GJ's, during a power

The Tack Room is another small but quite comfortable lounge located in the Islander Motor Lodge. A nice place to talk. The Tack Room is a favor- ite for after hockey game drinking.
The Smuggler's Jug at Confederation Inn is a very nice place done in pub type decor with a larger drink- ing area than the previous two. The place has a really nice feeling. Go and drink.
‘If.you want to eat while you drink, the
Canton has the best Chinese and Canadian food in town and very good service.
Don't sit in your room like a brick if you've done your work and have nothing to do. Go to a lounge or a club and have a drink or a meal and meet some people. This isn't Toronto — if you smile and say hello you don't get weird looks from people.
