~—-There were on Tuesday last two execu- tions in Cansda—one at Belleville and one at Quebec. On Saturday last there was another in London. Murderhas been an unpleasantly frequent crime in Canada the last year or two, without adequate punish- ment being meted out to the perpetrators. The fact that three executions have fol- lowed each other in such quick succession may, as the Montreal Gazette remarks im- press upon people with homicidal tenden- ¢ies the fact that indulgence thereof has very ugly consequences when the law is carried out, and that the law is very likely to be carried out.
—A statement of goods exported from the Dominion during the month of May last shows the export of the produce of Canada to have been $5,992,441, as com- /yared with $5,963,030 for the same month | last year ; the produce of other countries, | $764,283, compared with $535,305 for May 1889, making a total of $6,756,724, com- | pared with $6 550,332 for the same month ‘In the previous year. The gvods entered | for consumption amounted in value to $8,- | 867,797, on which a duty of $1,745,931 was coliected, compared with $9,846,429 and a duty of $1,904,689 for May, 1889. There were at the credit of the depusitors in the Post office savings banks on the 3lst of May $21,357,554, and on the same day last year there were $22,132,854.

Dr. Smith, Classical Professor, made a most effective speech. He thought that the Scriptures were not as well known as formorly.
At the request of the Conference, Dr. Dewsrt was invited to say a few words on Confederation, in reply to Dr. Inch. His remarks were in excelient taste, and were well received even by those who differed from him. Thereupon Dr. Pupe moved a resolution of thanks to Dr. Dewart, which Was unanimously passed. *
AFTERNOON SESSION.
Rev. W. J. Kirby presented the report of the Parsonage Aid Fund Committee. Grants were voted to Sheffield, and also to Mount Stewart. The latter mission was voted $50 to help to pay for the Parsonage recently bouglit.
Rev. George Steel presented the report of the Contingent Fund Committee. The expenses during the past year had been very heavy. - In order to pay its indebted- ness and to meet expenses .of the coming year, Conference ordered that each cireuit should raise an amount equal to 2} per cent. of the amount raised for minsterial support for the year 1890.

Dr° Sprague is a member of the General Conference, ex officio. On a first ballot, Dr. Stewart and Rev. C. H. Paisley, A. M., were elected. On a second ballot, Revs. F. Marshal, E. Evans and Robert Wilson were elected. On a third ballot, Rev. J. A Clarke, A. M., was elected. On a fourth ballot, Rev. W. Dobson was elect- ed. Ona filth bailot Rev. T. J. Deinstadt was elected. Rev. F. W. Harrison was elected the first alternate. and Rev. D. Chapman the second.
The lay men elected are J. D. Chipman, Eeq., St. Stephen, Dr. Inch and Dr. Small, Seckville, H. J. Thorne, Esq., and H. A. McKeown and J. C. irvine, Esq., of St. John, W. E. Dawson, Evq., and Hon. G. W. Bentley, of Kensington, and M. Lemont, Esq., of Fredericton. The first alternate was J. R. Sangster, Esq. and J. J. Weddall, Esq., of Fredericton.

Rev. E. Evans reported from the Mission- ary Committee. Grants for expenses be- cause of affliction were made to Rev. J. Goldsmith, D. H. Lodge and Robert W. J. Clements.
Dr. Inch reported from the Educational Fund. it appointed deputations for edu- cational meetings. For the P. E. Island Districts the names were Revs. Dr. Stewart, J. Read, W. W. Brewer, E. C. Turner, J. King and Wm, Harrison.
On motion it was resolved that the fourth Sunday in September be observed as Children’s Day in all the churches.
