The biggest upset in years almost happened on MacAdam Field on Saturday afternoon as our Panthers dropped a real close one to Saint Francis Xavier ll-7. Our boys, now (O-3)almost topped nationally ranked X (3-0) in a contest that could have gone either way. It pretty much centered on one key play.. R.ck Kiraly's last-minute pass to Socky MacDonald which instead went into the arms of X safetyman Sinfield on the one yard

line. Socky was just over the line and a catch by him would have sent our fans delirious, However, as the much-quoted lines go, I'The saddest words of tongue

eared the X-men were about to devour us, any advantage in play seemed to be with our Side. St. F.X. quickly took an 8-0 lead which they held until, in the second quarter, Dave Connaughton recovered an X fumble on their 50 yacd line. With

John Paul Maclntyre running and Kiraly passing to Smiley MacLeod we got to their 28 from where Rick Kiraly passed to Maclntyre for the only P.E.I. T.D. of the‘day. -Mike Kennedy waddled in and put the ball through the uprights to break his intercollegiate scoring virginity.. It was also U.P.E.|.'s first point after Touchdown for the season, and the half ended 8-7 for the bad guys. While they had a field

goal for the only score of the second half, it seemed only frosting on the cake as the dramatic moment approached. With time running out in the final minutes, Dan Desjardins blocked an X punt on their 37 and on the next play a Kiraly-MacLeod pass took the ball to their 26. How ever on the next play...one which COULD have won the game...Kiraly passed for a last minute effort for a win but it was garnered

We were quite proud of the showing of our team and they looked like anything but a three-

time loser. We'd like to end off comment on the game by marvelling at the punting of rookie Dave MacLeod...we seem to have what we really need in him...we'd also wonder how Ricchiraly feels...it seems every game we go right down to the wire and {just miss through no fault of his...we haven't been beaten by more than a con- .verted T.D. yet and Rick must be getting tired of playing the dramatic role he is being forced into.

On a more pleasant note,

we'd like to comment that Mike Kennedy played host to the whole team for a spag- hetti dinner on Lower Spring Park Road on Sat: urday night...Mike swearsw that he did not impose on Pam as he claims credit for alU the cooking...alright Mike...but who cleaned up and washed the dishes? The\ players must have felt guilty eating huge quant- ities of food before those emaciated looking whippets.

This Saturday it will be a visit to S.M.U. for one we hope to win...we hope that Mati Kolga and Mike Laryotolkis will be completely recovered and ready to play. We also regret to report that Bill Bews has a broken ankle, suffered in the late moment moments of the Mount A. game and will be out for the season.

Our Lady Panthers continued to play well but still lack the scoring touch as they dropped a close 2-0 game to the DalhoUsie Tigerettes (we KNOW female Tigers are “Cats”) on a drenched field on Sunday.

One U.P.E.I. team did manage to eke out a single point Over the weekend as

Vincie Mulligan's Soccer Team earnedra 2-2 tie in the mud and rain. Up to this game, Dal was un- defeated and hadn't been scored upon. Ian Cameron and George Haddad scored for us. 'This Sunday the soccer team plays Moncton-- away.

championship but this Thursday night at the Charlottetown Driving Park five hopefuls will be con- tending for the right to represent our University, the C.D.P. and the P.E.
