Meanwhile, Premier Joseph Smallwood’ stuck by his earlier statements that this was his last jelection. He said it was his igreatest victory since leading |Newfoundland into Confedera- ition with Canada in 1949, but “I've had enough.”

Mr. Smallwood’s Liberals, In office since Confederation, won 39 of the 42 legislature seats Thursday, and cut Conservative strength to three. The PCs ton seven seats in the 1962 election.
