A Drrecron of the Canada Cotton Co., in an interview with a Montreal newspaper reporter, said that the position of the Mill was never better. There was grey cotton in stock, and their agent says that the only difficulty he sees ahead is that the Mill cannot fill orders. However others state that there is over a million dollars worth of grey cottons stored in Montreal.

No. 3 Company 82nd Battalion, was in- spected esterday afternoon by Brigade Major Freeland at Victoria Park. The Band of the 82nd Batt., was in attendance, which had the effect of drawing together a considerable num- ber of spectators. The men were put through ordinary company drill. On the whole they did very well, and were complimented by the Brigade- Major after the inspection was over.

Pata Acorpext.—Last Saturday afternoon while Mr. Jas. Newson (a farmer living in Searlton in this county) was threshing grain in his barn, a colt running loose, came in con- tact with the belt and knocked it off the fly- wheel. The passage between the machine and wall was quite narrow and the colt obstructing the way, Mr. Newsou could not get back till the flywheel had gained very rapid motion. On suddenly applying the brake the flywheel broke in pieces, part of it striking deceased on the face and temple. He lived till about 6 the following morning (Sunday), but was quite unconscious from time of being hurt. De- ceased was between 35 and 40 years and so far as we know was a hard working industri- ous man. He left a wife and three children with whom we sympathize in their breave- ment. — Pioncer.

tatoes from Summerside this season, having ‘oaded the schooner ‘*Victoria” with potatoes, turnips, black oats, ete., the prices being 16 to 17 for potatoes, 16 for turnips and 33 for black oats per bushel. Since last writing five vessels sailed with cargoes of white oats for ports in the West Indies, carrying away close on 40,000 bushels, Four of these vessels were loaded by Messrs. Rogers ani Holman. Tue thirty-fifth annual session of the Grand Division of Prince Edward Island, will be held at North Wiltshire, on Friday, the 26th day of October, inst., commencing at the hour of ten o'clock, in the forenoon, A public tem- perance meeting will be held inthe evening, and will be addressed by delegates from various parts of the Island. The usual reduced railway rates have been kindly granted by Mr. Superintendent Coleman. <> _EvIpENcE in the action commenced by the city against the Charlottetown Woollen Fac- tory for nuisance, was heard by the Stipen- diary Magistrate to-day, and the case adjourn- ed until Monday. The action arises from the managers allowing the refuse dyes and other matter from the factory to pollute the stream which flows from Spring Park. A judgment, we understand, will be entered against the factory if the owners do not tind some other channel than the spring stream to carry off the poisonous water.

THe Morice failure in Montreal hs a decidely better outlook than at first antici- pated. Mr. David Morice, at a meeting of those interested, stated that the bills due will amount to $1,500,000, but that his asscts show aclear surplus of $300,000. The firm did business as commission merchants and the advances made to the mills were generally twenty-five per cent. less that the market prices of the goods and thereof ample security exists, he claims in goods, at present market prices, to cover all advances. If the bills payable amount to $1,500,000 and the surplus at best to $300,000 the assets of the firm must be $1,800,000. A shrinkage of twenty-five per cent, would leave less than the bills pay- able. Mr. Morice states, however, that instead of a shrinkage the prices of cotton have advanced five per cent, and, with the diminished output, the market would soon absorb the surplus stock, and in March, at the latest, would be hungry again. The meet- ing agreed to let matters go on, payments to e made prorata, It is believed that the banks will fail in with this arrangement,
