Commeyctxe Youxe.-A Moncton des} patch says: ‘A young lad named McGarry, 14 years old, a pupil in the publie school, is on the high road of becoming a second Jesse James. Yesterday morning he went into the Miss Stevens and smashed suveral articles. Yesterday his teacher, Miss Devere, almonished him for his misbehavor, whereupon McGarry ran out of the room. In a few minutes he returned with a loaded revolver, which he had stolen out of the pocket of a coat hanging in the hall, be'ong- ing toa boy named Steeves, and levelled it at the teacher. Young Steeves jumped up and wrested the weapon from his hand and pre- vented him from doing any injury. Principal Wilbur was summoned and took charge of the weapon. In the meantime the boy had fled. He will doubtless be arrested.

THE following extracts from a letter re- ceived by Mr. Theo. L. Chappelle, from Mr. John F. Barnard, of Lincoln, Nebras- ka, will be found interesting :

‘** This winter is without a precedent as far as my memory serves mc. Up to Christmas we had a continuance of exceedingly mild weather, but since then, as if trying to make up for lost time, we have had a cuntinuance of Arctic weather that would make a Green- lander shiver. We lave just passed through a storm that has caused a loss of life’ greater by Jar than the ne wspapers report, and that has been followed up by a succession of cold wayes, the thermometer going as low as 22 degrees below zero; while north of us, in Minnesota, it reached 45 degrees below, caus- ! ing great suffering to those who are living on ! the partially settied prairies in the north and western part of our State. This class of peo- ple never do anything inthe way of antici- pating, aud when the weather turns cold are usually without means to make themselves comfortable ; and living long distances from their market town, whither they go to procure fuel, they were caught in the storm and many perished. In Dakota the estimated number is now placed at one thousand who perished in the snowstorm of last week, : This is the extreme quiet of the year. The past year has been one of unexampled prosperity. Our city now nambers 40,900, _and the amount spent in improvements during the past year approximates five million dollars. - * ° What real estate i sold netted me very large profits. J expect to spend with my \fumily several months at Shaw’s (Brackley Point) the coming summer.”
