A New York minister lately preached upon the subject, ‘‘Why are Americans dying eut?” He made the habit of boarding pria cipally responsible. He compared with great effect the vitality statistics of London and New York. In London, during 1830, there were 81,128 deaths and 132,128 births, or 51,047 more births than deaths. In New York, in 188], the death rate was 31.08 per 1,900 of the popslation, and the number of deaths was 12,494 greater than the number of births, Forty-eight American cities exceeded the death-rate of New York (31.08), while the death-rate of London was 22.14,

In the Senate, yestercay, Senator Geo. W. Howlan, Prince County, moved the Irish Resolutions, which were a short time ago unanimous!y adupted by the House of Commous, and ably supported by Sir John McDonald. The Senator's epeech, in mov- ing the resolutions, was one of the most exhaustive and eloquent yet delivered on the subject.
Senator Power fvilowed, and briefly in support of the resolutions.
Senator Haythorne moved an amendment to the resolutions which was seconded by Senator Reed. The amendment was a declaration of contidence in the Government of Mr. Gladstone, and its policy regarding the Irish Land Act, ete.
The question came up for discussion again to-day, and it is feared that the amend. ment introduced by Senator Haythorne will defeat the resolutions in the Senate.
A new post office will be established at Mansfield, King’s Coanty. This makes in all eight new offices granted to King’s County since January last.
The supplementary estimates will be laid on the table to-morrow.
