Neukomm requested the medium to go and see his brother at Werchez and say what was tne nature of his illness, and what cure should be adopted. What followed was really incredible. The medium began a scientific description of the invalid’s Jungs, giving a minute account of their diseased condition. teehnical particulars which even an ordinary doctor could not give, and'which might only be expected from an experienced specialist. With full command and correct nse of technical expressions, she gave the closest details, extending to + full diagnosis of inflammation of the lungs, and declared the diagnosis very un- vavorable, as against that kind of disease medical skill is powerless. In conclusion, she described the end of the patient in the usual Latin terminology, and immediately afterwards she fell back senseless, uttering a piercing shriek. I at once had recourse to every conceivable means of restoring consciousness, but all in vain. Within ten minutes her pulse began to fail, and death shortly followed. According to the post mortem the immediate cause of death was concussion of the brain.

NEWS NOTES.

A remarkable accident occurred the other day in New York. A young man went to make a call upon his sweetheart. She sew him coming, and, opening the door, stood at the top the steps waiting for him. There was an iron handrail at the side of the steps, and when the voung man came up to the girl he put one hand on the rail. He fell dead at her feet. An electric fan used in driving a fan in the adjoining building by coming in contact with a metal cornice which touched the handrail had charged the rail so with electricity that the young man was instantly killed when he touched it. The young woman was so affected by the oceurrence that it is doubtful if she will recover.

The Dublin Freeman’s Journal pub- lishes a letter from Dr. Thomas Addis Emmett, of New York, in regard to the dissensions in the party. Dr. Emmett calls Justin McCarthy’s attention to the disastrous consequences to the national movement in America of constant refer- ences to scandal and publie discussion of differences existing between factions of the Irish party. The national federation, Dr. Emmett writes, is about to hold mee - ings to raise money for the nationalist cause, but the whole movement in Ameri- ca has been paralyzed by Mr. Healy’s lett ter about Mr. Gladstone’s subscription to the parliamentary fund. He recalls the fact that the Irish federation in America sent Ireland $83,000 during the last threa years. Ireland could have relied upon an annual remittance of $10,000 but for the recurrent wranglings in the party. Dr. Emmett appeals to Mr. McCarthy and all Irish representatives to no longer paralyze the efforts of the warmest friends of Ire- land in the United States.

Loxpon, Sept. 25.—The Central News has been informed that Captain Gai- worthy, commander of the Chinese trans- port Kow Shing, stated under oath that the charter of the Kow Shing to the Chin- ese Government contained a clause to be kept secret —that in the event of hostile movement against the ship by Japanese, the Kow Shing should be regarded as Chinese property.

Loxpox, Sept. 25.—A despatch from Shanghai to the Times says the anti-for- eign feeling in Pekin is growing steadily. Foreigners while on the streets are sub- jected constantly to annoyance and insult by soldiers. They seem scarcely to real- ize the fact that this country is engaged in a serious war. Two Japanese cruisers passed Che Foo on 23rd.

Lonpon, Sept. 25: —Admiral Colomb, in an interview to-day concerning the recent fight $ off the mouth of the Yalu River, said he thought the battle tended to prove that moderate sized vessels were better even than great vessels that cost one million pounds. The result depended upon the men rather than the material of the vessel. Tle Chinese fared the worst, he said, because the Japanese were the superior fighting race.

Lonpon, Sept. 25.- -A Shanghai corres- pondent says: “It is reported that the Japanese warships have left Tai Yang Tau station. Their destination is un- known. Great anxiety is felt concerning their whereabouts.”

Vienna, Sept. 24.—The cholera has so diminished that it is now confined to only a few districts. :

Sr. Pererssore, Sept. 24.—From Sept. 2nd to 15th there were 245 new cases of cholera and six deaths in this city. In Warsaw there were 157 new cases and 88 deaths within the same period.

Sr. Pererssure, Sept. 24—A number of skeletons with manacles attached have been found buried close to the surface of the courtyard of the custom house here. A similar discovery was made a few days ago at almost the same place, but upon the former occasion instruments of tor- ture were also discovered with the skele- tons. It is stated that a secret chancei- lory of the tyrannical regent, Byrne, the favorite of the Empress Ann, who reigned in 1730-1736, was situated where the re- mains were found.

Vienna, Sept. 24.—The German Con- gress of Natural Science opened here this morning, with about 2,000 delegates pre- aent. Chevalier Stanislaus DeMadeyski, the Austrian Minister of Public Instruc tion, delivered the inaugural address. He denied that the study of natural science forced human ideas into the background. The greater progress made, he added, the more strenuous would be the effort te weld natural and moral sciences into a har- monious whole. This, he continued, was the aim of the state in public instruction.

Paris, Sept. 24——A report has reached here that Col. Colville, administrator of Ugunda, in mustering the remains of Emin Pasha’s troops for a march on Bar el Ghazel on the Nile, with the object of heading off and preventing the Monteil mission. The departure of Col. Colville will be the signal for a joint Anglo-Italian expedition to Khartoum from Suakim and Kissa la.

Dvus.iy, Sept. 24.—A group of old Fenians and invincibles have taken advan tage of the discontent caused by delay in action upon the home rule question and heve formed a new society called the Old Guard. They have issued a circular call- ing upon Jrishmen everywhere to enroll themselves ir a united brotherhood to re- sist all attempts to lower the Irish flag or to stay the onward march of freedom. Not one of the prominent members of the Irish party signs this appeal.
