Lady Aberdeen’s Ball.

The Countess of Aberdeen’s ball last week, at Haddo House, was a great success. ~The return from Canada of Lord and Lady Aberdeen, after five years’ absence, has been greatly wel- The ball signalized the coming out of Lord and Lady Aberdeen’s only daughter, Lady Marjorie Gordon, who was presented last season, but until its clese was pre- vented from joining in the most bril-— liant events by mourning for her aunt the late Hon. Lady White Ridley. An event of interest in the family was the recent celebration by the Dowager Countess of Aberdeen, the Earl’s mother, of her eighty fifth birthday. This lady, who continues well and hearty, has many most interesting re— collections of the early days of the (ueen’s reign obtained from her father- in-law, the fourth Earl of Aberdeen, the distinguished statesman. A great grief to the Countess Dowager was the disappearance of her elder son over thi:ty years ago. He pursued a career of romantic adventure, dropping his title, and was later discovered to have been accidentally drowned while serv— ing as a sailor, on a voyage from Boston to Melbourne. Of Lady Aberdeen’s untiring efforts for the good of the Canadian people during her stay in the Dominion we allknow. Lady Minto is also doing her best for the country, but in an- other way.
