A letter was read from Mr. Murdock, of Nova Scotia, with regard to the water supply. The letter was laid on the table.

The codilied bye-law respecting market was read and, with a few small amendments, agreed to. It enacts that the limits of the market of this City shall include the whole of the limits of the City of Charlottetown, and thatthe ‘‘market place,” when mentioned in the bye-law, shall be deemed that plot of

sidered, as the passage of that section might ulema aloss of a portion of the City pre perty. The Recorder said he would look earefully into the matter, and the clause was then passed, ‘The warket place shall be open for the accommo:lation of the public on Tues- day and Friday’s, until such time as the Market Committee shall think proper to chanze the time. It shall not be lawful for any person—unless a lessee or licensed vendor ——to expose for sale any produce, goods or chattels without first paying such toll for the same as prescribed the list of tolls. Section 5th empowers the Market Committee of the City Council to regulate and superintend ail busi- ness in connection with the Market. The Committee shall have power to alter, with the consent of the City Council, the Rules and Re- gulations, as well as the tolls. They may authorize the sale, by auction or tender, the tolls, rents of cellars, stalls, stands, etc. The amount to be paid for said tolls, rents, etc., shall be quarterly. They shall also appeint suitable places for the sale of hay, wood, etc. From section IX to XIV are special regulations for vendors of produce, goods or chattles, in the Market place. The Market Clerk may grant daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly licenses to sell anywhere within the Market limits, by s 7 fees, rules and regu lations, to be made by the Market Committee. No huckster shall occupy any place or stand in the Market place without being licensed so to do, and the fee for each license shall not ex ceed $5.00. Any person guilty of an infrac- tion of the bye-law shall, on conviction, be fined asum not exceeding $16. An amend- ment was made to reduce this amount to $10, but it was lost on division.

A law for appointing the times for holding the quarterly meeting was read and agreed to. It enacts that the quarterly meeting of the Council ‘shall be held on the first Monday in the months of October, denies, April and July.”

A law respecting theatres and public shows was read and, with several amendments, agreed to. This law, as agreed to, enacts that no theatrical exhibition or show shall be allowed within the City without obtaining a license, for which they shall pay a sum not exceeding $50. The lice nse shall express the number of days the show ia to remain, and they shall pay for each remaining day a sum not exce ding $15, and if the exuibition is indecent or pro- fane, the Mayor may order it to be at once: clesed.
