Turee Scott Act cases, brought by Prose- cutor Henderson, and a man for leaving his horse without a driver, occupied the attention of the Stipendiary Magistrate to-day. The Seott Act cases were ieesetd until Monday next, and the man who neglected his horse contributed 50 cents te the funds of the city.

Tus sub-Committee appointed at the General JulAlee Committee meeting last even- ing, to solicit subscriptions in aid of the cele- bration, entered upon their duties this morn- ing, and reports having succeeded remarkably well. The amounts subscribed by leadin merchants and other citizens are from $5 down to $5. The committee will submit a complete report to the adjourned general meeting on Saturday evening next.

Fighting in the Northwest.
Orrawa, May 16.
A lespatch has reached Ottawa stating that a foree of mounted police were attack- ed by a band of Blackfeet Indians some distance from Medicine Hat, and that in the fight that ensued,the police were driven back and a number of them seriously injur- ed. The police obtained reinforcements and suceeeded in arresting forty of their assailants who are now imprisoned in Fort McLeod.

Wryytpec, May 16. The Regan Hotel at Roissevain, Man., was destroyed by tire yesterday. One of the guests, D. G. McBean, Winnipeg, was burned to death.
