A Narrow Escare.—The town of Lock- port N. S.,narrowly escaped another severe scorcbing on Sunday. At an early hour on that mornin. the door of an unoceupied building belonging to Henry Hamilton, was discovered ajar, and oa Investigation a most deliberate attempt at incendiariem was discoyered. A barrel containing old pepere, some pieces of wood, etc., had been carefully prepared and saturated with coal oil and ignited, but for rome reason, after charring the coptente, the fi «-bag bea @¢ alarmed and suddenly departed before having time to properly arrange affairs to hie satisfaction. A canflagration in this locality would have been attended with most disastrous copscquences.

New Glasgow Notes.

The annua] meeting of the shareholders of New Glasgow cheese factory was held on the 22nd inst. The business transactions of the year were satisfactory and r« flected credit on the directors. Mr. J. Wesley Heseltine, who has so successfully con- dacted the factory since its organization was present and gave ready and inteiligent answera to questions put to him by several of the farmere present, respecting the manufacturing of cheese; the breeds of

cattle best suited for dairying purposes in this Province, etc., after which a hearty; vote of thanks was tendered him, not only for the valuable information given, but for the earuertyattaker by him during the past three years in waking the imdustry in this place a tuccess. Mr. Heseliine made a suitable reply.

Several of the village bove sre down with the ““Klondyke fever.” We think however that when the season for “Prairie Chickens” returns, our jolly sportsman will again be oa his rounds.
