McDonald, who wrote,in London, a letter to Com- mander Cheyne which I bave becn permitted to read and, in which he @uys: “T sail on the 9th and shall sudmit the matter, with my op nion, to Council on my arrival. I will at once inform you of the result. Meanwhile, in private con- versation you can state my strong personal desire for the organization of the expedi- tion, and my belief that if the Home Government will grant substantial aid, Canada will! aid to @ moderate extent.” I speak for Commander Cheyne a crowded bonre. GooD TEMPLARS MOCK PAKLIAMENT.,

At the regular meeting of the Charlotte-

town Lodge, I. O.G. T., yesterday evening two candidates received the Subordinate Degree. A resiguation from a member of the Mock Parliament, Mr. Higgs, was received, and ata bye alection, Mr. L. A. Sellers was returned by acclamation for the constituency of Pigtown. After the other business of the lodge was finished, the Mock Parliament was duly opened with an excellent address from Governor Stevenson. Mr. Joshua Whittle received the appointment of sergeant at erms on astraight party vote, and a com- mittee was appointed to draft a reply te His Honor’s speech.

A very intereating discussion on the policy of the government was participated im by Rev. W. J. Kirby and Mr. @ HH. Foster, (govt) and Merers. J. D. Seaman and W.G. Sabine, (opp.) The first vamed gentleman explained the policy of the goveroment, while the Jatter, in eloquent and telling speeches, denounce! the government and their actions in the past, as well as their plans for the future. Much interest was manifested in the pro- ceedings and ihe time passed al! toquickly. Mr. Messervey, (Muddy Creek) movd and Mr. Sellers,(Pigtewn,) seconded the adjouroment of the debate till next Tbureday, which was carried.

Many interesting bille will be brought the Templars Mock Parliament for dis- cussion and their Thursday euenings will thus be spent very profitably.

The “soup” which a high Liberal! authority told us tue leaders smelled long ago, 1s now ready, ‘all right, all right,” but it is not being peddled about the csuatry. There is, in fact, no chance for a drop of it to get away fromthe pot. The gentlemen who emeled it in imagination long before the fire was so much as lit under it, are standing several feet deep about it now “ready with their ladies.” It is no use for the “true Liberals” to sit down at home and wait for it to be passed.

THE HOSPITAL RECITAL:

The large audience assembled at Pbil- harmonic Hall jast evenicg showed some justifiable impatience with the procrastina- tion which made the opening of the enter- tainment 8.20 instead of 8 o'clock, as adyertized. But once begun, there was

little in the entertainment to find fault with and much to delight. The instra-

mental music by Professor Vinnicombe’s orchestra was spirited and altogether ad- mirable, and Miss Sinclair’s singing sur- passed expectation in respect to purity of tone and@finish of rendition. The songs she sang were within the compass of her v. ize and suitable to the taste and culture of the aud.ence. There was in her singing little, if any, straining after effect—the bane cf too many of our amateurs; and the genuine applause and the encores which she received were the fairly won tributes to genune merit. Miss Lefargey in her reading: strengithere! the decidedly strong and favorable impres-ion made by her a & few weeks ago in S:, Peter’s Hall. She gave an ariistic and sympathetic support to Miss McMillan in the fifth and seventh scenes of the tragedy of Macbeth: and her rendition cf the court scene in the Merchant of Venice was a capital bit of acting—all the more. difficult for a lidy oecause the characters were, with oue notable excep- tion, those of men. Ofa lghier quality, but admirable in its way, was her recital of Grandmamma at the Maskea Ball, -

which brongnt down the house. The people of Charlottetown have otten heard recitals by pupils of Miss McMillan; but never, before last evening, a recital by Miss McMillan herself. Iu the pupils we have sometimes had to grieve over faults of pronounciation aud gesticulation and over harsheess of toue and style. But those were all absent from tbe recitals of the misiress, as given lastevening. Her interpreteiion ot the feeling aod character of Lady Macbeth, was artistic and the impression produced upon all persons of literary culture and sympathetic nature must have ben very powerful. Persons whe desire the applause of the crond rather than the wrapt attention of a cultivated audience do not ead Shakespeare in Charlottetown; and we have to thank Miss MacMillan for marking her appreciation of the higher standard of her art by selecting the character of Lady Macbeth tor representa— tion upon the occasion of berdebut. Miss MeMillan’s recital.of “ The Set of Tur- quoise” was clear and lively, and her lepresentation of the horse race, in which

the jockey became a h-ro, commanded the Clusest attention and wacmest applause of the audience.

It redounds greatly to the credit ef Summerside, that three young ladies, natives of the town and ite vicinity, were able to give such a highly artistic exier-
