Tea Party.—The Committee etnrusted with the management of the Tea in aid of the Catholic Church and Convent of Sum- merside, have been already appointed, and are determmed to make the Excursion and Tea off1888, tobe held at Cape Traverse, on the 4th July eclipse any entertainment of the kind that has hitherto bee» given in this Province ; not even excepting ‘‘ The Mammoth Excursion and Tea ” of 1885,

A Nice Exarerr.— Messrs. Blake Bros. have had their meat market re-painted and re-fitted, and it now presents a more than usually attractive appearance. Yesterday their exhibit of beef, mutton, lamb, etc., was splendid. The carcass of a wether sheep, the live weight ot which was 255 lbs., and which dressed 145 Ibs. was much admired. The animal was five years old and was purchased from Mr. Edmond Biggs, of Eldon, Belfast, who deserves great credit for raising such prime stock.

‘There are a dozen families who cannot obtain desisable houses, others, who are seriously considering the question of leav- ing town altogether, and some who are pre- vented from coming here with their families for the reason that it is impossible for them to get a house in which to live. That such a state of affairs should exist is not credit- able to us and it is a severs reftection on our boasted enterprise. Sir John Ross who will be the administrator of the Government until the arrival of Lord Stanley. ‘he latter is expected to arrive at Rinrouski about the 15th prox., and will come directly to the capital and take his oath of office here.

Lord Russell's Successor. Hawirax, May 28.

General Hoss, the successor of Lord Russell, commander of the Imperial forces, at this station, arrived by the Caspian to- day. He has a distinguished military re- cord, He served through the Crimean war, Indian mutiny and Afghanistan war. He took part in the battles of Alma, Inkerman, the siege of Sebastopol, and the siege and capture of Lucknow. He accompanied Gen. Sir Frederick Roberts in his famous march to Candahar, and was second in command when the Afghans were routed and _ prac- tically annihilated. In personal appear- ance he is short and stout. Lord Russell leaves to-morrow for home.

Bishop O’Dwyer, of Limerick, has caused & sensation by sending a letter to the Mayor of Limerick, giving warning to Oatholics who attend League meetings an- nounced to take place on Sunday that they will be guilty of a grevious sin, in view of the admonitions of the Papal rescript. The bishop regrets that’ national organization should be risked for the sake of upholding the Plan of Campaign, which is condemned by both Gladstone and Parnell.
