Sir Charles Tupper's Election.

Amuerst, N. S., Oct. 10.

The election court met at 3p. m.,having, with consent of counsel, adjourned from 10 a m. Judge MeDonald presided. The adjournment was to enable the respondent Sir Charles Tupper, to be present. The petitioner, Mr. Pipes, and Sir Charles were present in court. Mr. Condon, for the petitioner, stated that he had on September 27th received notice admitting bribery by avents of the respondent. Mr. Townsend, for the respondent, then made the same admission. Judge MeDonald at once gave judgment, and on motion of counsel granted the following order: ** I do

Outwitting the Police.

Lonpon, Oct. 10.

An immense meeting under the auspices of the National League was held on Sunday at the confluence of the Suir and Barrow Rivers in Ireland. The water was covered with the boats and barges bearing the par- ticipants. The usual resolutions denounc- ing the course of the Government in Ire- land were adopted. The police were com- pletely outwitted, having no knowledge whatever of the meeting.

An immense meeting was held in the round room to-day to protest agiinst the prosecution directed by the Government against the press. Thomas Sexton, M. P.,

presided. Several English journalists were present. Afteran address by Wm. O’Brien, resolutions were read declaring

that the struggle forthe freedom of the press must be continued. The resolutions were carried amid great enthusiasm.

A Vitriol Thrower Sentenced.

Toronto, Oct. 10.

Edward Graham, who on Aug. 12 last, threw vitriol in the face of Louis Sievert, was to-day sentenced by the Police Magis- trate tu imprisonment for life. The court- room was crowded, and when the sentence was delivered, there was vigorous applause. Graham, who is believed to be insane, never moved a muscle.

Alliance between Italy, Germany and Anstria.

Berury, Oct. 10.

The alliance between Italy, Germany and Austria has been renewed for five years. It reserves the right to maintain an absulute neutrality in the event of a Franco-German war.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 10.

A telegram from Dr. Wall, president of the Board of Health of Tampa, to-night, says: *‘ Fever spreading. Six new cases, one death to-day. Several patients in a critical condition.’

New York, Oct. 10.

Achild, 18 months old, died of cholera, at Swinborn Island, yesterday. This is the seventeenth death on the Island among the Alesia’s passengers—a total of twenty deaths ia all.

A good idea for the barbers would be to hold a convention to take into consideration the ways and means for the suy pression of Sunday shaving.
