POLICY (5 'COMPLEX?

On a recent trip to the third floor of the Student Union Centre (THE BARN), I saw something appalling on CIMN’s Information Board in the public reception area. 7, No, it wasn’t the latest issue of Hustler, but it cer- tainly was of the degree of taste which would have delighted the minds of that publication’s readers.

In an attempt to present as many facts possible, here is the exact word-for-word statement (excluding the anme of the person to whom the document was addressed) which hung by a single tack.

“Your attitutde toward this station really sucks, as it has all year long. You’re anything but professional on-air, and now you go ahead and break format for an entire shift.”

“If we had let you get away with it, we would have to allow everyone, so you’ve probably figured out what has to be done.” .

“Effective 2:00 p.m. March 25, you are no longer a member of the CIMN staff. Don’t come to us with that bullshit that you have a ‘right’ to work here; full-time students have the right. You, being a non-student, had a privilege (sic) —— one that has been taken away.”

Whether the rules were broken or not isn’t the question. The public letter announcing the subsequent dismissal went a little to far.

What is the Question? _

Well, I think it’s very evident. Should the Authors of the open letter have expressed personal senitments when they knew the note would be seen by numerous visitors to the station?

The Authors’ attitude toward people is questionable, and at any rate unprofessional.

Why wouldn’t the authors, who I presume are management, settle the matter in private, rather than by hanging a bulletin for public display and access?

If the Authors, K.T. and HG, are management, they had better take a course in human relations or they may soon need a large number of form letters like this with a blank left for the name.

I can only guess that volunteer staff will be outraged when they view the letter. ‘

The key word in the last sentence is volunteer. Remember, K.T. and 3.0., that you must treat your people with respect. '

For such an important organization like CIMN, respect is essential. Respect will foster Harmony.

Respect and Harmony are the two factors needed if an entity like CIMN is to survive.

If not, the station will choke and die.
