Story Forms Big Part Of Island’s Heritage

Woven into the. fabric of the greaf new series. The Fathers of Confederation. which starts this week in The Evening Pat- riot. there is the story of the Island's great-- est moment in history and one of the rich- est features of its heritage. Everything that Canada is celebrating this year in P. E. I. enters into the series.

For if pictures and describes the 23 men who "builded better than they knew" at the Charlottetown Confederation Con- ference in I864—the l0 who were added to their group for the subsequent gather- ing in Quebec—shaws them and deSCribes them as they were then, and in a way that never before has been done.

Seven of the 33 sections of the series are devoted to the men who spoke for the Island at those two gatherings.

The whole meaning of the Fathers of Confederation Memorial Centre now nearing completion in Charlottetown. and of all the festivities under way this year on the Island. goes back to the men who are made recognizable through this series.

In the century since the first Cooled: oration Conference was he.ch in Charlotte- tovvn in IBM. there never before has been such a glimpsing back Into that era as is afforded by the distinguished series of illustrated articles to be presented in The Evening Patriot starting Tuesday.

If is the first series ever to present pictures of all the Fathers of Confeder- ation who took part in the Charlottetown and Quebec Conferences «— to previde personal details about each of them—to tell the part they took. man by man. in the shaping of what Canada has become.

Hundreds upon hundreds of hours of research and preparation went into the creation of this series. The pictures are suberb. the work of Mrs. Irma Concill and based upon rare. sketchet which were only recently unearthed, with each one ranking almost as a collector's item.
