Letter from Student Union President

Dear Students,

Hello how are things going? Things are pretty good for me. The beginning of the 1988/89 academic year has been a great one. This years edition of the Orientation was certainly one of the best in a long time, thanks to the tremendous efforts of the three co-chairs of the Orienta- tion. The weeks following the ori- entation have also been great at UPEI. There is definitely a great spirit here this year. All of the events at the Barn have gone very well so far. Thank you all for making these events a success. It really seems like the Barn is the place to go this year. We have completed many renovations to

the Barn, and the place is look- ing pretty good. —

Besides hosting events the Student Union Council and Exec- utive are also busy with our meet- ing and committee work. We have agreed however to get out among students as much as we possibly can. I haven’t seen a whole lot of students yet, it seems I’m in my office a little too much. I really want to meet as many people as I can, and I want to see as many of my old friends as pos- sible.

I really have a good feeling about the 1988/89 academic year. I am surrounded by very dedi-

cated executive and an ambitious

council. The most important fac- tor of this year however is cer- tainly you. So far you have made this year a terrific success, I know

that this will continue. So I hope to be able to write a small arti- cle like this every week or at least every two weeks. I apologize for any informality of this article, but what I plan to do is use this space to tell you what is going on at the university and specifically with its Student Union. Thank you very much for you time, speak to you soon.

Dear Editor:

Are you aware that to get access to the word perfect pro- gram in the Kelly computer cen- ter you have to contact each in- dividual professor and get he/she to telephone the computer cen- ter. Then the professor has to ask the center to give a useraccount and password to each person in their course. Once that is done then you can use. word perfect in the Kelly. Business students in the computer courses will already have access but if you took it last year, you are out of luck. If may wish to contact your student rep- resentative and request that all business students get automatic access, which makes more sense then having to arrange access for each course.

ANNOUNCEMENT U.P.E.I. THEATRE SO CIETY IS PROUD to announce its return to the entire university campus and we will soon be in the midst of another dramatic season. (Alive, as it were, with the col- ors of autumn). We hope that you will enjoy our upcoming of- fering and we entreat you to take part in the open call for budding Thespians and stage hands which is an integral part of any produc- tion. (Not to mention the annual cast party).

Letter to the Business students and Faculty

Dear. Business Students & Faculty;

Now that the initial chaos of Back to School has subsided, we’s like to extend a sincere welcome to each of you.

Our names are Valerie Adams and Shannon MacDonald. We are the School of Business Ad- ministration’s elected representa- tives on the Student Union Coun- cil. We are very excited about this academic year and are eager to represent the School well.

We serve as a liason between the school and the SU, therefore, we must keep each other will in- formed to our ideas, concerns and happenings that occur within the two organizations.

To do our part, we are go- ing to have a SU News section on the main bulletin board in Kelley- Located here will be a copy of the most recent council minutes, how we each voted on a motion, the time & date of the next meeting, upcoming events and other tid- bits of news. ‘

In addition to this section, a SU Information file will be on re- serve in Dean O’Rourke’s office. Contained within will be all docu- ments and reports that we receive

at meetings, as well as copies of the minutes from previous council meetings. Please take a moment and read through the file, you may be surprised and impressed by the things we discuss, receive and accomplish. Contact Mollie

If anyone is interested tin be- coming involved or “more” in- volved in OUR Student Union, there are numerous things that you can do! Follows are a few of the positions available: Year- book, Gem & CIMN staff, and member for CFS and Social com- mittees.

Perhaps politics are you spe- cialty! Well if they are, then you are in luck. The following positions are available to busi- ness students in the upcoming fall election: Freshman Rep., Sen- ate Rep., and Board of Gover- nor Rep. Nominations are open from September 26 to October 3. Let’s get involved business stu- dents. There are now over 500 of us, so we should be ruling the school!
