Well, the Student Union finally got their hard liquor license and the newly renovated Panther lounge has opened.‘ anday afternoon and evening saw the "Grand Opening". of the newly furnished lounge. Attendance wasn't all that good but the students that did show up sampled the varieties of hard liquor, liqueurs, beer and wines available to them. The Student Union executive seemed pleased with the \

“attendance and operation. J.T. Place, S.U. Business Manager, rightly put it when he said, "The idea behind the changes in, the lounge is not so people will drink more but that they'll drink here." After all, where else in town can you go to drink with students only from the university. _. . ‘

The Campus Police were hard at work anday afternoon and evening. Anyone who wanted to enter the Lounge had to present their student I.D. Many students did not have their I.D.'s and were refused admittance (although many of these students were well known to the C.P.'s) 'lhe reason they were refused admittance was because the C.P.'s were doing the job they were hired to do. The Campus Police Policy states that only University students with valid I.D. 's and their dates will be admitted to wet events.

Now, this has been announced over' Radio CIMN for the past month, appeared numerous times in the last 3 issues of the SUN, appeared on posters on Campus and been enforced by the Campus Police at the Pig 'n Whistles. I happened to be at the Barn on anday night and I overheard some of the abuse the Campus Police had to take from the so—called "involved" students of the University. These' "involved" students felt that since they were well known on Campus they should be allowed into the Pub

' although they didn't have their I.D. '5. When they were refused admittance, they proceeded to hold the Campus Police to blame and proceeded to verbally abuse the

C.P. members.

Now, not only do I consider this ignorant, thoughtless, and childish but also very inconsiderate of these so—called "involved" people. So what! Just because you're a Student Councillor, Student Bartender or a member of the radio station or Social ‘ " ccmmittee, should the rules be bent just for you. Sure, I realize you might have forgotten your I.D. at home, and I'm sure that in years past you have been allowed into events without your student I.D. because the Campus Police happened to know you, Egg, now that the C.P. "s are enforcing the rules don't you think you could at least try and give them a break? The Campus Police certainly don't enjoy having to turn away their friends but the line had to be drawn satewhere. |

So . . . . . .fram now on EVEPWONE has to present - his/her I.D. at the door. If you are refused admittance because you don't have your I.D. , then for Christ's sake blame it on yourself instead of the doorman who is only doing his jda. . COFFEE SHOP NEWS
