The regular monthly meeting of Orwell Cove W. I. was held at the home of Mrs. Walter McLeod on December ioth with it) members and two visitors present.

The president presided and the meeting opened with the ode fol- lowed by repeating the Creed. Roll call was answered by an axchange of Christmas gifts. The minutes of previous mcetirigiwere read and adopted. Each member then pass- ed in two sets of pyjamas for or- phanage collectlon. also other articles of clothing which were packed and sent to each orphanage.

Correspondence was read and discussed. It was decided to send 85.00 to T. B. League. A very fine report was then given by Mrs. Wm, Morrissey Pres. on the lee- dership Course held at Pankdala.

A report was heard from the sick committee. one cell was made and ii member sent her thanks for a gift received. The aiok committee was asked to pack a. Christmas box for shut-ins of the district.-

Attempted Jail

Break Foiled At sumniersid

An attempt to break out of the Prince County Jail was detected and foiled Sunday evening but the person or persons making the attempt could not be identified.

During the evening and alter dark the figure of a. man was noticed from outside at one of the windows. When the matter was ' ' ted from inside it was found that one of the bars was partly lawn through, but the per- son involved had retreated into tha cell block and mixed with the other prisoners.-S

An adjourned meeting of the Summerside Town Council was lfeld last evening for the purpose of passing sundry bills which re- qulred passing for the end of the year closing of the books.

At last night's meeting the council decided to refuse permis- sion to the Summerside Athletic Association to erect an eight foot fence around the baseball dia- mond at Queen Elizabeth Park. Roll call was answered by l5 members and several vmltois, each telling a joke. In the absence of the secretary for the first part of the meeting. Mrs. John Beer was asked to act. The minutes of the previous meeting were read, ap- proved and signed.
