I thought the level of the debate was excellent and that Senate was ex- ploring the real issues of this University. I don't like to see issues de- cided by so close a vote, but in certain cases,‘ there are two distinct sides to the issue and it's important to come to a resolution of the pro— blem even if the vote is close. This issue has‘been absorbing a lot of time and effort of the Univer- sity over the past year and it is of the-f-uUnost importance that we move on to other things.

We now have a decision you have to work with, but even if a decision is close, that should not change the way we move ahead.

I was rather pleased with the quality of the debate on both sides of the issue. Specifically, it did not result in personal incriminations.

I supponted it reluctantly. They would have been better advised to build a business program integrated with the sciences and humanities. In the final analysis, if people do not want to be in a faculty

you cannot keep them there, so It's best to let them go and

make the best of the situation.

structures issue has distracted the University over the more important issue of implementing

approved by Senate years ago. These would have more significant bearing on the health of the University and students and would integrate the faculty much more sig-‘ nificantly than the struc— tural changes which have ended up dividing the university. '

We should have been focusing on the academic life we can provide for the students, rather than tinkering with administrative structures which are unlikely to have any benefits for students.

We should be concerned with the philo- sophy of the place and not so much with the structures.) Right now, we have watered down the philosophy of the university enough and cannot do anmore or it will become a farce.
