Dear Editor, As only a novice in
the ways and dealings
of University life, I, find it rather diffic- ult to get enthusias— ‘ tic over Student Union politics. The election of the four major pos— itions just doesn't stand paramount in my mind and I fully realise that it will make little difference to me who ul— tnnately occupies these positions. Next year I will be a sophomore
and I will recieve all the benefits open to
me as an average bloke on campus. In other words, I will still be permitted tc guzzle
beer to my hearth con— tent and enjoy the vis- iting bands at my local campus pub periodically throughout the school year. But maybe this view lacks insight and

But a vicious rumour from the day before caused a rumble in the pit of my stomach as I checked off my ballot. The day before was a Tuesday like any other Tuesday with the excep— tion that it was the day before the'Student Union election. Then I heard it.

I had come across any— thing similar since my grade nine History class when I had read about Hit ler and Mussolini. What I am speaking of I lear— ned from three of my associates who spend a bit of time in the Duffy Building basement. Appar- ently they and others present had been instruct ed by their department's

Next year will come and go and many fine times will be spent at the Barn swilling brew and 'partying and nobody will ever know the difference. After all that is what politics is all about.

A public lecture will be given Monday March 14 by Leon Theriault, his— ory professor at the Un— iversity of Moncton. The title of his talk (in English) is The Acadians of mew BrunSwick: Quest for Political Power, set for Robertson Lecture Theatre (RLLT) at 8 p.m. An Acadian Soiree at The Barn will follow with Chicken Fricot and ent— crtainment. ‘
On Tuesday Marguerite ifiaillct will lecture (in French) on Acadian Liter— ature: Alive and Well (RLIT) at 2:30 p.m. Mlle. Maillet is co~author of Antologie de textes lit- teraires acadiens.
As part of Acadian week activities the cur— rent Wednesday Noon HOur Lecture Series will fea— ture Reginald Porter of the PEI Heritage Found— ation who will speak on the Church of St. Simon and St. Jude in Tignish: Its Architecture and Dec— oration. The lectures are
given at Confederation Center Lecture Theatre at 12 noon.
On Thursday Francis C. Blanchard, president of the St. Thomas Aquinas Society, will give a lec- ture (in English) entitl- ed: La Societe Saint— TW— pirations and Influence (RILT) Friday at 12:30 p.m., in English.
The week long cele- bration ends on Friday evening with entertain— ers GAMECK and Jeannita Bernard in the Dr. Steel Recital Hallat 7:30. Tickets are available at the UPEI Bookstore, and the Bookmark.
