All the gang had g-althered now. and there was no doubt as to what they saw, or thought they saw. Every one of the gang was scream- ing. "Owl! Owl! Owl!" Blncky and Mrs, Blacky flew just a little nearer. Yes, there was an Owl. There was no doubt about it. It was a big Owl, and it was perched In one of those trees in that clump from which that call had been coming,

Now. there wasn't one of that gang that alone would have dared to attack that Owl. ,Numibers give courage, and now the members of the gang were working up their courage to show how daring and bold they were, It would be just too bad for that Owl it all of those Crows should attack him at the same time. He didn't seem to be at all afraid. He didntt seem to be at all disturbed. He didn't move. He just sat there waiiting. He didn't so much as roll his eyes.

"Funny." muttered Blacky, talk- ing to himself, "Funny."

In a great many uses the de- clarer is not to be bhimed for losing a contract. even though he could have made it by a different line of play. That different line may have involved "double- clummy" technique, and deoiu-er: are not supposed to be olairvoyunt.

Yet, in some hands the real question is whether the winning plan would or would not be truly "double-dummylsh" .- and that is the burning question in the hollow ing deal. -
