Orrawa, July 28.—An important step has been taken hy the customs authorities | in connection with the collection of re- turns of exports by means of compulsory export en‘riesat ports of exit. Collectors at all ports of exit, which sre pear a cor- responding purt of entry in the United States, have been instructed to check the Canadian export eutries with the report inward to United States customs. By this mean@ it is hoped to secure full returns of exports not reported outwards at the Canadian pom of exit.

C., July 27.—The strength of the precautionary measures taken by the military authoritiesin the protection of the salmon fishermen wil ling to work on the terms offered by the canners has resulted in the first day’s fish- ing on the Fraser passing off without any breach of the peace or any further com- plaints of effective intimidation. Fifteen bundred boats, which started out yeater. day with Japanese fishermen, came strag- gliogim during the mgbt from midnight onward. The catches were emall, averag ing twenty salmon to each boat.
