CHICAGO. Sent. 80 —(AP) - Wheat futures prices held firm most of the session today, but l sharp break Just before the close wiped out gains of about a cent. During the session wheat advanced to within a. oent imd u half of the season's highest levels, established a few weeks ago. The sell off was attributed to profit taking and carried closing prices to levels just a shade above Monday's final fig- ures.

Wheat closed unchanged to 1-2 cent higher. Dec. 1.23 1-8 to 1.23, May 1.27 1-2-5-8; corn down to 1-4 up, Dec. 8i 7-1. Alloy 87 5-8- 3-4; oats 1-8 lo 1-2 lower; and soy- beans i-2 to 1 3-8 higher.

Livestock

MONTREAL, Sept. 30 -(CP) — There were 821 cattle, 715 sheep and lambs, 1.018 hogs and 461 cal- ves for sale on Montreal livestock markets today.

The cattle trading was slow. Oth- er kinds of livestock were firm.

A large percentage of the cattle held over were common to fair quality steers and these were very slow sellers. The early sales made were mosty cows and bulls. Butch- er cows were $4.50 to $7 tops 87-35. and common butchers $4.50 to $5.25 Canners and cutters $3 to $4.25. Good butcher bulls $6 to $7 and common bulla 84.50 to $5.75. Calves were firm at $9 to $18 for veais with one calf at $13-50- Drinkers were $7 to $8.50 and gras- sers were $5.50 to $7 mostly $6 to $8.50.

Good ewes and wethers were $11 with bucks and culls picked out at $9. Sheep were $3 to $6.50.

Hogs were firm at $14.75 to $14.85 for B-l dressed $11.10 to $11.25 for B-l alive fed and watered and up to $11.25 off trucks delivered. Grade A drew $1 premium with discounts on off grades. Sows were $9 to $10 live weight.

NEW YORK, Sept. 80 -(AP) — The stock market took a hitch in its belt today and stepped out of a generally unsatisfactory September on the rallying side.

All active Canadian stocks were fractions higher. Dome and Inter- national Nickel each advanced 3-8 point, Walkers Common 5-8 and preferred 1-8, Ford l-B and Distill- ers Seagram and Lake Shore Mines i-4 each. Brazilian traction and Canadian Marconi both were unchanged.
