Perey Moore, son of Mr. Theophilus Moore, of the Inland Rev- enue department, has just passed a most successful examination at the University of Pennsylvania, and has been awarded the dcgreeof M.D. Mr. Moore was a! student in the oftice of Dr, Kelly. We} have not heard where he intends practising.

A work- | ing train is now engaged b:llasting and putiing in a new siding at Moncton, | but shippers still complain of the scarcity of cars. A great quantity of logs, railway ties and other wucd stuff has been got out at different points along, and this, together with stone from the quarries riong the line, guarantees a large summer's business.

This patent embraces two methods, one being ascrew attachment which, while being convenient and easily operated, makes the package secure against pilfering in transit ; the other isaspring hinge with press button for cheaper cases and boxes, These cases are now being supplied to the trade by Messrs. J. A. Farquharson & Co.

Were Tury Roveev /—There arrived at the I. C. R. station last night a man named Gallant, his wife, and his wife’s father. The trio were from Egmont Bay, P. E. I., and were bound for Yarmouth by this morning s boat. Somewhere between the Island and this city Gallant lost his pocket book con- taining ten dollars. After a thorough search through the pockets of the three enough money was found to send the senior ahead where money will be secured to send here forthe strapped pair, who are now at the house of one of the:railroad men.—St. Joho (razeite.

Qvuesec, May 7.—The steamer Labra- dor, which arrived yesterday, landed 826 steerage passengers. The steamers Laur- entian, of the Allan line, and Shuberbuk (German) are reported below with 1080 and 700, respectively, and all well.

A letter from one of the leaders of the revolutionary movement in Cuba states that arrangements are complete for a great upris- ing of Cubans against Spanisn rule in June. Most of the 500,000 Cubans inthe United States have enlisted in the movement to free their native land.

A deepaitch from Calcutta to the London Daily Chronicle says that the Indian Gov- ernment has decided to depose the Khan of

Chelat on account of his irrepressible bloodthirstiness. While the torture to which he subjected his wives and ministers recently has been under investigation, he

as murdered 65 of his subjects, thus rais ing the number of murders cummitted at his instance since he began to reign in 1857 to 3,000. He has killed five of his wives; one of them he burned alive. The Indian Government appoints the Khan’s son to be nominal ruler; so as to concilliate the nat- ive chiefs, and arinexes Beluchistan.
