Excuse my ignorance, but I find that your articles don't really say anything.

I find it hard to apprec— iate your comments because I don't know what "funky" is. What is a "nice haunt— ing sadness". Your slang is vague and general.

How about approaching music through the author. What do you thinkvthe sing- er or group is doing? Do you think he is protesting, commenting or sharing ex- perience? How does he comm- and and control his instru— ‘ ments, his group his style' and skill. -

Our artists are our poets. They reflect the feeling and psychic of our age. How does C.S.U.R. as the people who introduce us to the voice and symbol of our age feel.

You insult a real artist everytime you suggest that he has produced a reasonably commercial product. I'm not interested in a good buy, but I would appreciate your insight on music.

Your comment on the record 'reviews is appreciated and demonstrates why there are so many critics. A critic tries to put down his ideas in terms he can understand

as well as the public. Uh- fortunately, not everyone explains his.feelings in the same terms and context but I will try to be more explicit.

Funky muSic generally refers to dance music pro- duced by black performers. Some examples are "Super— stition" by Stevie Wonder, "war" by Edwin Starr, and "Keep On Trunkin" by Eddie Kendricks.

"Nice haunting sadness"

refers to a feeling a song_

may give you in which the melody tends to make you think of some incident or pleasantly quiet scene, the music tends to act as a background for thought. You definately read me wrong when you refer to a commercial product. These are not necessary poor and I am definately not insultd ing a song by saying that it will sell. It is merely the opinion that more people will appreciate and purchase this particular song over another song. For example, "Creepin" on Grand

Funk album "Shinin On" is of less commercial value than -

"Locomotion". But no one can say "Locomotion" is musical garbage by any means.

With respect to group histories, I'd like to get~ into those; they require research which I’d like to start in the future. Otherwise, it's difficult to understand exactly what a group is doing, what they have done and what they'll be doing.
